Abstract

This community service (Abdimas) activity was a collaboration between a team of academics and SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Palembang, focusing on mitigating cybercrime risks through a Forensic Linguistics (FL) approach. The program aimed to transform students from passive social media users into individuals with critical linguistic literacy. A total of 31 participants were equipped with skills to analyze digital language in order to identify threats, fraud (scams), and hate speech. The materials covered social media and its role in society, the concept and scope of Forensic Linguistics, cybercrime on social media from a forensic linguistic perspective, and the Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) Law. The activities included material presentations, question-and-answer sessions, quizzes, and simulations of digital case analysis, employing methods such as socialization, lectures, and simulations. The results showed a significant increase in students’ linguistic awareness, demonstrating the effectiveness of Forensic Linguistics as a vital and preventive tool for digital self-defense. The article further elaborates on the theoretical framework, program implementation, field findings, and implications for digital literacy education at the senior high school level.
